A Tullahoma man has been sentenced to 17½ years in federal prison for an arson attack on an East Tennessee nonprofit and attempting to provide material support to Hezbollah.
Regan Darby Prater, 28, was sentenced Oct. 20 to 210 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay $1,289,000 in restitution, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. Prater pleaded guilty in April.
Prosecutors said Prater admitted driving from Tullahoma to the Highlander Center in New Market and using an incendiary device to destroy a building, causing more than $1.2 million in damage.
Before the attack, he spray-painted a Nazi-associated symbol in the parking lot. Authorities said Prater acknowledged that his white-supremacist beliefs and the center’s ties to the Civil Rights Movement motivated the arson.
In a separate offense in 2019, Prater admitted sending a document purportedly containing personal information on more than 35,000 people associated with the Israeli government to someone he believed was connected to Hezbollah, a U.S.-designated foreign terrorist organization.
The FBI investigated the case with assistance from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
