By Katie Northcott, News Director

On Wednesday, Feb. 11, Scott Hargrove, Director of Schools for Coffee County Schools, announced that the district would close on Thursday, Feb. 12, to allow students and staff to rest and recover from illness.

Feb. 12 is now a teacher in-service day. Since the in-service day was previously scheduled for Feb. 13 and Feb. 16 is Presidents Day, students will return to school on Tuesday, Feb. 17.

Dear Families and Staff,

We are writing to inform you that all Coffee County Schools will be closed tomorrow,
Thursday, February 12, due to a high number of students currently experiencing
illness.

We have seen an increase in flu-like symptoms across our community. Out of an
abundance of caution, we believe it is important to provide time for students and staff to rest and recover, and to help reduce the spread of illness.

Please note the following schedule updates:

  • Thursday, February 12: No school for students (school closed)
  • Thursday, February 12: Teacher in-service will take place (previously scheduled for Friday)
  • Friday, February 13: No school for students or staff
  • Monday, February 16: No school (Presidents Day holiday)
  • Tuesday, February 17: Students return to school

This extended break will allow families additional time to focus on rest and recovery.
During this time, our maintenance and custodial teams will also be working to sanitize and disinfect classrooms and school facilities.

We appreciate your support and understanding as we take these steps to protect the
health and safety of our school community. To help prevent illness and support recovery, we encourage families to prioritize proper rest, stay hydrated, wash hands frequently with soap and water, cover coughs and sneezes, and keep students home if they are feeling sick or experiencing flu-like symptoms.

Thank you for your cooperation and attention to this update. We look forward to
welcoming students back to school on Tuesday.

Sincerely,
Scott Hargrove
Director of Schools
