DREMC Warns of Scam Targeting Members

By Katie Northcott, News Director

On Tuesday, Feb. 10, the Duck River Electric Membership Corporation published the following public service announcement:

Be aware of phone scams targeting utility customers.

Scammers are calling Duck River Electric-served business and residential members,
threatening to disconnect power unless a bill is paid immediately. These calls are NOT from Duck River Electric.

If you receive a call like this, hang up immediately. Even if the call sounds legitimate, be cautious.

DREMC does not use toll free 1-888 or 1-800 numbers, which the scammers
sometimes use. Even if someone asks you to contact DREMC using a 931 area code,
check with DREMC directly regarding the status of your account by calling one of the
numbers for the cooperative listed at dremc.com.

If you need to verify the status of your DREMC account, log in to your account online
through dremc.com, use the mobile app or call Duck River Electric directly at any of the numbers on their website.

Stay alert to the scammers’ attempts; protect your information; and help spread the
word to friends and family.
