Franklin County Juvenile Charged with Attempted Murder

By Katie Northcott

A juvenile in Franklin County faces multiple charges after being found in possession of weapons near Huntland School on Tuesday, Sept. 16.

On Monday, Sept. 15, school officials notified Franklin County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) that multiple students had reported that a juvenile made threats of violence involving weapons. Students and staff also reported that the juvenile exhibited concerning behavior. Upon receiving these reports, FCSO began investigating the threats.

Early the next morning, FCSO deputies responded to Huntland. The juvenile was near Main Street, about two blocks from Huntland School. The deputies detained the juvenile after finding a sword, a bow, arrows, and knives in the juvenile’s possession. Further investigation revealed that the juvenile was not currently enrolled in Franklin County Schools.

FCSO charged the juvenile with three counts of Attempted First Degree Murder, Threats of Mass Violence, Unlawful Carrying and Possession of a Weapon, and Making a False Report to Law Enforcement. FCSO’s investigation is ongoing. The suspect and potential victims are juveniles, so their identities cannot be released.

FCSO assured the public that there is no current threat to students or staff at Huntland School or any other Franklin County School.

“The safety of our students and schools remains our top priority. We will always act swiftly on any information regarding threats to ensure our community remains safe,” Sheriff Tim Fuller said. “I commend the quick action and teamwork by our patrol division, school resource officer division, and criminal investigation division.”
