Governor Launches Website to Connect Tennesseans to Food Resources, Federal Government Promises Relief

By Katie Northcott, News Director

On Thursday, Oct. 30, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee announced the launch of FeedTN.org, a website that connects Tennesseans with resources and opportunities to serve their communities. He announced on Monday, Nov. 3 that he will provide $5 million to food banks across the state.

The Tennessee Department of Agriculture (TDA) announced the website in a Facebook post and said Tennesseans in need of emergency food assistance should visit this website.

“If you’re a SNAP recipient in Tennessee and looking for ways to fill the gap the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) — administered by our Commodities Staff here at TDA — provides nutritious food to eligible individuals and families,” the TDA said. “If you’re SNAP eligible, you are automatically eligible for TEFAP distributions.”

According to News Channel 5’s reporting, federal government “officials said they would begin using contingency funds to continue paying benefits after facing lawsuits from nonprofits and more than two dozen states.” However, the story also indicated that it would take time for SNAP recipients to receive funds.

Federal contingency funds are usually reserved for emergencies like war or natural catastrophes.

Government is also seeking to provide help on a local level. The City of Tullahoma provided a list of resources available in Tullahoma to its Facebook page and shared TDA’s post.

Peterson Media Group has compiled resources from FeedTN.org as well as the City of Tullahoma’s post.
