Senior Addye Norman slammed a two-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring classmate Amaya Sharp from second base, and the Tullahoma Lady Cats celebrated a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Coffee County Sunday afternoon in Tullahoma in a game broadcast on 93.9 The Duck.
The Lady Cats (10-12) host South Pittsburg today at 5:30 pm, then jump back into District 12-3A action on Tuesday with a trip to Marshall County. The final region game is Thursday at Franklin County, and the final home game is Monday, April 28, hosting Grundy County.
Sophomore Avanley Metcalf pitched the best game of her short career, striking out eight Lady Raiders and allowing only two hits with four walks. Only one Coffee County runner reached third base, and that was on a Tullahoma error in the third inning.
Metcalf, the team’s leading hitter, raised her pitching record to 5-1 and lowered her earned run average to 4.20, with 53 strikeouts in 43 innings. She is also hitting .485 with 39 hits, including six home runs, nine doubles, and four triples; all team highs.
Coffee County pitcher Lily Norman was equally effective, striking out nine Lady Cats and giving up only four singles and four walks. However, three of those hits came back-to-back-to-back in the seventh inning, with Sharp, Maggie Lynch, and Norman collecting them. No Lady Cat baserunner had advanced past second base before the seventh inning.
Coffee County (14-15) will host Cascade on Wednesday, then complete District 6-4A play against Warren County on Thursday.
