At the Manchester Finance Committee meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 17, Manchester Mayor Joey Hobbs asked for the committee to give him approval to begin negotiations to purchase a new building for the City of Manchester Animal Control.
Hobbs said the property he was looking at was located on Interstate Drive. However, the exact address of the property was unclear from the meeting. Hobbs said he hoped to negotiate the price to about $425,000. Once Hobbs completes negotiations, he will bring the item back before the Finance Committee.
Hobbs cited inability to expand the current Animal Control facility as the reason for purchasing a new property. The City of Manchester is currently sharing a facility with Coffee County Animal Control. Hobbs said the new building has 20 kennels, which he said would double the amount of space the city’s animal control has currently.
The committee gave Hobbs approval to begin looking into purchasing the property with a 2-0-0-1 vote. Vice Mayor Mark Messick and Alderman Thomas Crosslin voted in favor. Alderman Donny Parsley was absent.
