The Tullahoma Police Department (TPD), Coffee County Sheriff’s Department (CCSD), and Estill Springs Police Department (ESPD) have been named in recent data released by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI).
According to reporting from WSMV 4, TBI released data on Monday, Jan. 6 indicating that 419 sober drivers were arrested for DUI in Tennessee during 2024. TPD, CCSD, and ESPD were among the agencies named in the report.
TPD made two DUI arrests where the individuals later tested negative for alcohol or drugs. The CCSD and ESPD each made one such arrest.
In 2025, Tennessee lawmakers enacted Senate Bill 1166 requiring TBI to report to lawmakers the number of DUI arrest made where the individual later tested negative for alcohol and drugs. The legislation came after journalist Jeremy Finley led an investigation into wrongful DUI arrests in Tennessee.
Finley reported that some former Tennessee state troopers claimed that pressure from leadership to make DUI arrests contributed to the wrongful arrests. Finley’s reporting can be found here.
