Temple Baptist Christian School Newly Eligible for Education Freedom Scholarship

By Katie Northcott, New Director

After completing the steps to receive Category II accreditation, Temple Baptist Christian School (TBCS) is encouraging its students to apply for the Tennessee Department of Education’s Education Freedom Scholarship.

The application window for the scholarship opens on Tuesday, Jan. 13 and closes on Friday, Jan. 30. Find application resources here.

According to the state’s website, “Education Freedom Scholarships allow students who are entitled to attend a Tennessee public school in grades K-12 to use state funds for education expenses while enrolled in an EFS-registered Category I, II, or III non-public school located in Tennessee, prioritizing expenses for tuition and fees.”

A press release from TBCS is published below.

Temple Baptist Christian School has successfully completed the necessary steps to be promoted to a Category II accredited school. Last February, Temple began a partnership with TANAS, the Tennessee Association of Non-public Academic Schools. TANAS is a faith-based, state-recognized accrediting agency.

The school was immediately able to join TANAS as a Category IV, church-related school, but that was not the end goal, by any stretch of the imagination. Temple had its sights set on reaching the goal of full accreditation status as soon as possible.

The rest of the spring semester and all summer, TBCS went through an intense self-study process to be prepared for a fall inspection. On October 27, TANAS representatives spent the entire day on the campus. They did a thorough inspection of policies and procedures, as well as teacher evaluations. After this visit, TANAS was able to give our teachers ten-year certifications. More importantly, they were able to promote Temple to a Category II school.

“As we worked our way through the self-study process, it was a blessing and encouragement to know that we did not have to change anything that we were already doing,” said Mr. Stewart, TBCS’s Administrator. “The self-study helped us to see that we were already providing a quality program for our community for many years, even though we did not have the Category II status.”

One of the driving factors in TBCS completing this monumental achievement was to make Temple eligible for parents to apply for and receive the Education Freedom Scholarship that is available through the state of Tennessee Department of Education. As of this writing, Temple is the only school in Coffee County eligible to help our families in this way.

Temple Baptist Christian School was founded in 1985 to train students for time and eternity. Enrollment is open for next year for grades Pre-K through 12 th grade. Contact TBCS at 931-728-4911 to schedule an appointment for an interview and tour.
