On Tuesday, Feb. 17, Peterson Media Group reached out to Tullahoma City Schools about reports of an above average police presence at Tullahoma High School. TCS responded with the following statement:
“Approximately 70 to 80 Tullahoma High School students participated in a walkout this morning, leaving campus to take part in a brief cultural acceptance protest. This was not a school-sanctioned event; school and attendance rules still apply. All appropriate disciplinary action will be handled by school administrators.
“The high school coordinated with its School Resource Officers and the Tullahoma Police Department to ensure the students’ safety. The majority of students returned to school; some went home; others continued protesting and moved further down Jackson Street.
“Shortly after the walkout, a fire alarm at the school sounded, and students and staff evacuated the building. The Tullahoma Fire Department investigated, and students were able to return to class safely.
“TCS would like to thank all first responders and staff members who aided in keeping our students safe today.”
