The Tullahoma News announced on its Facebook page and website that it is discontinuing publication of The Sunday News print edition.
The announcement was made on Friday March 27, saying the newspaper would be “discontinuing publication of The Sunday News, effective this week, and will be going to a weekly Wednesday edition.”
March 29th will be the paper’s final Sunday edition.
The article posted to the paper’s website did not mention if paid subscribers would be receiving any sort of a refund.
The change will make the newspaper a once-a-week publication instead of twice a week. The paper was previously published three times a week – but in April of 2019 cancelled its Friday publication.
Lakeway Publishers – parent company to Tullahoma News and other area publications such as the Manchester Times, Winchester Herald Chronicle and Elk Valley Times, filed Chapter 11 Bankruptcy in May of 2019, just a month after discontinuing the Friday newspaper. Lakeway Publishers later announced it had “successfully emerged” from the bankruptcy filing in May of of 2021.
The story posted by The News last week also mentioned that all of its middle Tennessee publications will be going to a “Berlinger” format, which is smaller than traditional newspaper broadsheet.
According to Columbia Journalism Review, newspaper circulation has plummeted nearly 70% since 2005.
