Tullahoma to Add Temporary Traffic Light at Dangerous Intersection

By Katie Northcott, News Director

At its meeting on Monday, the Tullahoma Board of Mayor and Aldermen (BOMA) unanimously approved a temporary traffic light at the intersection of William Northern Boulevard and Cedar Lane.

The city will place $40,000 into an investment fund with the Tullahoma Utility Authority to install the temporary light. The temporary light will be operational for about a year until the permanent light can be installed.

“The permanent light will be a part of that account,” City Administrator Jason Quick said. “Basically, the temporary is there. Once the temporary is paid, it’s removed [from the account]. When the permanent one is placed there, … it will go on the investment account.”

At the time of the meeting, the city had already put out a request for proposal with a submission deadline of Jan. 15, 2026, for contractors to make bids on installing the permanent light. Quick estimated that the permanent light will be installed about a year from January 16, 2026.

Quick said that the intersection, which is near the Tullahoma Regional Airport, is one of the most dangerous in Tullahoma.

“How we’ve not had any kind of accident there, I’m really surprised,” Quick said.

Quick said that traffic at the intersection would only become heavier because of new apartments being built along Cedar Lane. Alderman Kurt Glick agreed that the temporary light is an important investment, saying he knew someone who had gotten into an accident at the intersection.

BOMA approved the temporary light with a 6-0-0-1 vote (Alderman Sernobia McGee absent).
