The Tullahoma Wildcats made a rare trip to Brentwood on Tuesday and suffered their most decisive loss in over two years, falling 72-42 to Brentwood Academy on the Eagles’ home floor.
Tullahoma (5-2) will travel to Sewanee on Saturday before returning home to host Shelbyville on Tuesday. The Wildcats have dropped two in a row, blowing a 17-point fourth-quarter lead against Lincoln County last Friday in Fayetteville and losing 60-57. The Cats began the week with a 74-67 overtime win at Shelbyville.
Brentwood Academy connected on 15 three-pointers, including nine in the first half, and led 25-6 after one quarter and 43-15 at halftime. The Wildcats could never cut into the lead, and the mercy clock ran for the final four minutes.
Unofficially, Jayden Thompson led Tullahoma with eight points and five rebounds, and was named the Midtown Nutrition Player of the Game. Lukas Price scored seven, Austin Tinnon and Sam Bobo had six each, and Noah Jones added five points.
Lady Cats Turn Over Opportunity
The Tullahoma Lady Cats had plenty of opportunities to cut into the lead Tuesday night at Brentwood Academy, but 24 turnovers proved to be their undoing in a 45-39 loss in Brentwood.
Tullahoma (4-3) will play Mercy Academy, Kentucky, on Friday at 6 p.m. at Upperman High School in Baxter, TN. The Lady Cats will return home to host Shelbyville on Tuesday.
Gena Hickerson, the Midtown Nutrition Player of the Game, and Lizzy Sharpton led the Lady Cats to a fast start and a 14-13 lead after the first quarter. From there, it was all Eagles as they outscored Tullahoma 12-2 in the second quarter.
But the Lady Cats fought back, with Aubrey North hitting a key three-pointer and Kenzie Farrell adding six points, to trail 33-27 after three quarters. Tullahoma pulled closer, as McLayne Bobo scored nine points in the second half, but the Eagles hit their free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
The Lady Cats opened the week with a pair of road wins, beating Shelbyville 52-40 and Lincoln County 36-34. Hickerson finished with eight points, seven rebounds, and two steals, while Sharpton had nine points, six rebounds, and five assists. Farrel added eight points and five rebounds, and Bobo had 11 points, four rebounds, and three steals.
